Glad you enjoyed :) I don't even know if I've ever eaten cariboo or wapiti, so good on you!

One little thing... you write, " Inspired by the great European cities it was built to replicate" -- except Quebec City wasn't built to replicate European cities. People have been building there since 1535 and the city was officially founded in 1608, so that's just how they built stuff back then. Stone and wood.

In fact, some architectural details are innately North American. For instance, the reason windows are made up small glass panes is because glass had to be shipped from Europe back then and it's easier and safer to ship small pieces of glass than large windows. Also, the roofs tend to be much steeper than European ones because there's nothing like a heave snowfall to make a flat roof cave in (you actually still occasionally hear stories about roofs caving in after a long winter). You'll find similar architecture (minus the cliffside buildings) in Old Montreal and parts of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Presumably some older cities in the U.S. may have it, too, but there aren't that many places down there that are that old...

In any case, glad you got a chance to enjoy QC and that you seemed to have had almost good weather!

ah the cherry blossoms. each year, the festival is kicked off at the National Building Museum, a gem of a museum that is often overlooked because it is a rare entity, a private museum. But it boasts one of the largest open interior spaces around (I am pretty sure the interior columns set some sort of record). And a few other little known DC tidbits, some of the cherry trees have sadly not survived, but the city replaces them and has a team of people that care for them. The bigger the trunk and more gangly the tree, the more likely it was one of the originals. The kite festival got its start as a protest because kite flying was banned on the National Mall. And one musn't forget Ben's Chili Bowl on U Street for amazing eats. :) I can't believe it took me several years to brave the crowds to enjoy the trees in full bloom. One year, i left my sunroof open while playing soccer on the mall, i returned to a car with the interior covered in delicate lovely petals.
